Kenya Airways overview
Kenya Airways was founded in January 1977 after East African Airways broke up. It was government-owned until 1995 and privatised in 1996. Today the Government of Kenya is the largest shareholder, and KLM keeps a minority stake. After years of financial difficulty the airline reported a return to profit in 2024. It has been a full SkyTeam member since 2010.
The fleet includes Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners for long-haul routes, Boeing 737-800s and Embraer E190s. Its premium cabin is branded Premier World. From its Nairobi hub it flies across Africa and to Europe (London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome), the Middle East, Asia and New York JFK.
