China Eastern Airlines overview
China Eastern Airlines was founded in 1988 and is one of China's three largest airline groups. It is controlled by the state-owned China Eastern Air Holding Company and has been a SkyTeam member since 2011. Its fleet numbers roughly 680 aircraft including subsidiaries, and in 2023 it became the first airline to operate the Chinese-built COMAC C919 commercially.
The airline's main base is Shanghai, where it operates hubs at Pudong and Hongqiao, with further hubs in Kunming and Xi'an. It serves more than 200 destinations. Long-haul services include New York JFK, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Toronto in North America, many European cities such as London, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid and Amsterdam, and routes to the Middle East and India.
