Kuwait Airways overview
Kuwait Airways was set up in 1953 as Kuwait National Airways and started flying in March 1954. It took its current name in 1955 and is wholly owned by the government of Kuwait. The airline suffered heavy losses during the 1990 Iraqi invasion and later renewed its fleet with new Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
The fleet of roughly 30 aircraft includes Airbus A320neo-family, A330 and A350 jets and Boeing 777-300ERs. Kuwait's airspace was closed for about 55 days during the 2026 regional conflict. Kuwait Airways restarted a reduced network from Terminal 4 on 26 April 2026, and airport capacity was still limited in September 2026.
