RwandAir was founded in December 2002 and began flying in April 2003 as Rwandair Express, taking the RwandAir name in 2009. It is owned by the Government of Rwanda. In 2022 it announced plans to join oneworld, sponsored by Qatar Airways, but as of September 2026 it is not listed as a oneworld member.
The small fleet of around 14 aircraft includes Airbus A330s, Boeing 737s, CRJ900 regional jets and Dash 8 turboprops. From Kigali it flies across East, Central, West and Southern Africa, and to London Heathrow, Brussels, Paris, Dubai and Doha.
