Air India Express overview
Air India Express was founded in 2005 as the low-cost subsidiary of Air India and passed to the Tata Group with Air India in 2021. It merged with AIX Connect, formerly AirAsia India, and the integration was declared complete in October 2024.
The airline flies more than 100 aircraft, mainly Boeing 737-800s and 737 MAX 8s plus Airbus A320-family jets inherited from AIX Connect. Most seats are economy, while newer 737 MAX aircraft have a small number of larger Xpress Biz seats. In 2026 it served about 64 destinations, roughly 48 in India and 16 abroad, especially in the Gulf and Southeast Asia.
