Gulf Air is the state-owned national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, flying from Bahrain International Airport to the Gulf, the Indian subcontinent, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Gulf Air overview
Gulf Air began in 1950 as Gulf Aviation, an air taxi service in Bahrain. From 1974 it was jointly owned as a flag carrier by several Gulf states, and after Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Oman withdrew it became wholly owned by Bahrain. It is now held through Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat.
The fleet includes Airbus A320neo-family jets and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, and its premium cabin is branded Falcon Gold. Bahrain's airspace closure during the 2026 regional conflict forced a temporary shutdown. The airline then rebuilt its network in stages from April to June 2026, and by September 2026 it was reported to be operating its full network again from Bahrain.
