Caribbean Airlines was created in 2006 as the successor to BWIA West Indies Airways, whose history dates back to 1939. It is majority-owned by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, with the Government of Jamaica holding a minority stake. Its hubs are Port of Spain and Kingston.
The fleet consists of Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets and ATR 72-600 turboprops, with more aircraft on order. Jets have Caribbean Plus seats with extra legroom alongside standard economy. In 2025 and 2026 the airline cut several loss-making routes as part of a network review.
